Original London Aikido Headquarters Dojo
TK Chiba, 8th Dan Shihan, a close and direct disciple of O-Sensei and one of the most renowned Aikido masters in the world, was sent to the UK by O-Sensei to spread his message. He arrived in Sunderland in 1966 and soon relocated to London, establishing his headquarters dojo, the London Aikikai in 1967. London Aikikai remains Chiba Sensei's dojo in London. We maintain the closest of relationships with Chiba Sensei, receiving regular visits from him. Aikido instruction is given by Chiba Sensei's direct disciples and senior students.
The purpose of London Aikikai is to disseminate Aikido, a traditional Japanese martial art. We practise Traditional Aikido, also known as Aikikai or Ueshiba Aikido, after the founder, O-Sensei Morihei Ueshiba. Our technical director is T K Chiba Shihan, a direct disciple of O-Sensei.
London Aikikai is an old style Aikido dojo, providing a traditional environment for Aikido study at the highest levels. Our instructorscontinue direct lineage to Chiba Sensei to the present day, are highly qualified, highly experienced, have internationally recognised grades, and regularly teach at national and international level. Join us for advanced Aikido training or Beginners Aikido Lessons. We practise all Aikido disciplines of Aikido Bodyart, Jo and Bokken, Iaido and Zazen meditation. We are priviledged to regularly welcome visiting aikido students from all over the world.
